For most candidates, that may appear to be all you need to do. Most then tend to sit back and simply wait to hear back from the employer following their interview. But this is your opportunity to stand out from other candidates by sending a quick 'thank you' email.

It is also an additional opportunity for you to offer to clarify anything or answer any other questions that the employer may have thought of following your interview. This could well be the difference between a 'job offer' or a 'thank you but no' email from the employer.
