For Employers

1. What is Stop the Commute?

Stop the Commute is an employer branding platform and, as a Home Counties-based employer, it allows you to create your company profile and showcase your business to prospective employees and help attract the best talent that may otherwise drain in to London or to your local competitors.

The website helps those commuting in to London or elsewhere from the Home Counties to quit their long, stressful and costly commute by showcasing employers and jobs in the Home Counties.

According to research, almost half of UK’s workforce would change their job for a shorter commute. However, for most people, simply finding out what kind of companies and opportunities are closer to home is a task in itself.

By showcasing employers and jobs from across the Home Counties, we make it easy for your business to be discovered by jobseekers looking for opportunities closer to home in the Home Counties.

So, if you want to tap into the talent that’s seeking opportunities with employers based in the Home Counties, Stop the Commute is the perfect place to do it.

2. What does Stop the Commute do for me as a Home Counties-based employer?

It helps you attract great talent that may otherwise drain in to London or to your local / regional competitors. It helps you slash recruitment costs. And it saves you time.

You can advertise jobs ads that receive highly targeted applications because jobseekers learn what your business is about through your profile before they apply.

Your profile also allows you to engage with jobseekers and encourage them to upload their CVs to your profile allowing you to build your own highly motivated talent pool. And now when a vacancy does arise, it should be a matter of simply picking up the phone to the right candidate whom you may have already screened and interviewed ensuring no more gaps between an employee leaving and a new one starting.

3. How can Stop the Commute help us win the battle for talent?

For many commuters, compared with the Home Countries, London can appear to offer better career opportunities. This means that for employers on the outer edges of London, the Home Counties and further out, battle for talent is even more fierce than other parts of the country.

But with Stop the Commute, you now have a real opportunity to start winning that battle by showcasing your company and highlighting the benefits of working in your area as well as dispelling any misconceptions.

For example, you may wish to showcase diversity of your workforce and your office environment as well as social aspects such as cafes, restaurants, bars, parks and other facilities in your local area. You may also want to highlight the work / life balance an employee would enjoy on joining your company.

In short, you can create an engaging company profile that highlights exciting career opportunities and showcases the benefits of working for your company and in your town / city and win the battle for talent.

4. What exactly is an employer profile and how do I create one?

An employer profile is a dedicated section on the website that showcases your business. Designed to help you deliver engaging content, you can upload employee and office photos, explainer and employee stories / testimonial videos and compelling copy to provide a real insight in to your company.

It’s your opportunity to share with jobseekers what your business is about, what it’s like working there, what your office looks like and even showcase your town.

We would suggest not making your profile feel like a corporate video and avoid marketing jargon. Research shows that Jobseekers love employee stories and perspective. They want get an insight in to your company culture and not simply the facts about what your do.

5. What if we do not have any video content to upload to our profile?

Don’t worry.

You don’t need Hollywood standard video production. Videos and employee stories shot with a smartphone are likely to be just as engaging – it’s the content and not the production qualities that will attract great talent.

But if you do need any help with photography or video, give us a call and we’ll put you in touch with some great value-for-money video production companies.

6. Do we have to be located in the Home Counties?

Given that we are trying to help people quit their commute from the Home Counties in to London (or elsewhere) your will need to have an office or branch within the Home Counties and any vacancies will be based in the Home Counties too.

However, given the long commute many people undertake every day, we have been a little liberal with our definition of a Home County – therefore, your business could be based in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Dorset, East Sussex, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Leicestershire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, West Sussex or Wiltshire.

7. How is Stop the Commute different from job boards?

Job ads on job boards are almost all anonymous. They rarely mention employers’ names or even precise location of roles. Consequently, jobseekers are effectively applying ‘blind’ to many roles and are unable to tailor their application as they don’t know who they are applying to. This means that you, as an employer, have to sift through a lot of irrelevant applications costing you time and money and possibly losing out on the right candidates. More importantly, you may also miss out on great candidates who never apply in the first place as they don’t know who they are applying to!

Stop the Commute is different.

Jobseekers are able to view your profile, get a true understanding of what you do, hear from your employees and get an insight in to your company culture and get a real feel for what it might be like to work for your company. This way jobseekers can screen themselves resulting in applications from jobseekers who are motivated, engaged and keen to work for your company, saving you time and money and securing you a talented workforce.

8. What sort of jobs can we advertise on Stop the Commute?

You can advertise jobs at every level ranging from junior roles to board level appointments.
